Quiabentia verticillata is a species of the genus Quiabentia in the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet verticillata means '(Latin verticillatus) whorled, whorled'.

description

Quiabentia verticillata grows tree-like or shrubby and reaches heights of 2 to 15 meters. Their 4 to 5 centimeters long and 2 centimeters wide leaves are oval to lanceolate. The shoots are covered with several thorns up to 7 centimeters long .

The light red flowers are 1.5 centimeters long.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Quiabentia verticillata is distributed in Paraguay , Bolivia and northeast Argentina in dry forests at altitudes of 350 to 2000 meters. It was first described as Pereskia verticillata in 1923 by Friedrich Karl Johann Vaupel . Curt Backeberg placed them in the genus Quiabentia in 1936 .

Synonyms are Pereskia Pflanzenii Vaupel , Quiabentia Pflanzii (Vaupel) Vaupel , Quiabentia chacoensis Backeb. , Quiabentia chacoensis var. Jujuyensis Backeb. and Quiabentia pereziensis Backeb.

In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered. The development of the populations is considered stable.
