An Antoninian des Quietus celebrating eternal Rome

Titus Fulvius Junius Quietus († 261 ) was a Roman counter-emperor .

Quietus was the younger son of the commander Fulvius Macrianus . In 260, after the capture and killing of Emperor Valerian by the Sassanids , he and his older brother Macrianus Minor were elevated to emperor with the support of his father and ballistas , the Praetorian prefect Valerian . Their rule was apparently largely recognized in the east of the empire, as shown by inscriptions and coins; but since the summer of 261 they were no longer recognized in Egypt, where coins of Gallienus were minted again.

Quietus stayed in the east with Ballista while his brother and father marched west with their army to gain control of the Roman Empire. After the defeat and death of the two in Thrace in 261, the rule of Quietus was also in danger. He resided with Ballista in Emesa . There Quietus was probably killed by the angry population and Ballista by Septimius Odaenathus of Palmyra .
