Macrianus Maior
Fulvius Macrianus , also Macrianus Maior († 261 ), was a Roman general during the imperial crisis of the 3rd century .
Life
Macrianus was one of Valerian's generals and was very wealthy. His wife was of noble origin, but he was just a soldier. After Valerian's capture by the Sassanids in 260, he was disqualified as Roman emperor due to paralysis . With the support of Ballista , the Praetorian prefect Valerian, however, he succeeded in raising his two sons, Macrianus Minor and Quietus , to emperors.
He himself marched west with his troops from the province of Asia , but was defeated in Thrace by Gallienus ' general Aureolus . Macrianus and his son Macrianus Minor were killed. The other son, Quietus, was later murdered by Septimius Odaenathus of Palmyra .
