The Quirlblättrige water loosestrife ( Decodon verticillatus ) is the only species in the genus water loosestrife or water oleander ( Decodon ) in the family of Lythraceae (Lythraceae).

features

The whorleaved water loosestrife is a perennial with a woody stem base that reaches heights of 60 to 250 centimeters. The leaves are lanceolate, almost sessile, opposite or whirled and 5 to 15 centimeters long and 1 to 4 centimeters wide. The petals are purple.

Flowering time is from July to September.

Occurrence

The whorled water loosestrife occurs in warm to temperate eastern North America in swamps and shallow ponds.

The whorleaved water loosestrife is rarely used as an ornamental plant for garden ponds.
