The Austrian quiz program Quiz Taxi Austria is an offshoot of the British game show Cash Cab. Participants in the program have the opportunity to win money by answering a variety of quiz questions. The program is moderated by Max Schmiedl, a Viennese musician and actor. He had a brief guest appearance as a taxi driver in the ORF series Dolce Vita & Co and took part in Taxi Orange . This moderator drives the so-called quiz taxi, an orange Renault Espace with the Puls 4 logothereon. The show was broadcast for the first time on October 16, 2011. Of the total of 24 episodes in the first season, two were only available on the broadcaster's online platform. For the second season, which began broadcasting on May 10, 2012, new categories were introduced and the design of the car was changed slightly. The third season was first shown on August 18, 2012. The format is supplemented by so-called "extreme consequences" and celebrity editions at irregular intervals. The profit made by the prominent candidates will be donated.
Rules of the game
As with a normal taxi ride, the candidates name the desired destination, then they receive various questions from various areas of general education. Some questions are questions about images or unknown sequences of images and sounds, in which, for example, the composer or the like is sought. Complicated words are also asked that require participants to guess the exact spelling. Occasionally the candidates have to explain terms to each other by pantomime, drawing or speaking with a plastic ball in their mouth. If the answer is correct, the participants will receive a cash prize which, together with the level of difficulty, increases steadily. There are no possible answers, as with the millionaire show . The first three questions are worth 20 euros each, the following four questions are worth 50 euros each. After the seventh question, candidates can win 100 euros with each answer. If the candidates give no answer or an incorrect answer, they lose one of their three lives. If the game participants lose all of the three lives, the candidates are left empty-handed and have to get out of the taxi on the spot.
joker
If the candidates do not know the answer to a question, they can use two jokers :
- Telephone joker: Candidates can call a person of their choice using a phone in the taxi and get help with the solution.
- Passers-by joker: Candidates can address one or more passers-by who are in the vicinity of the quiz taxi.
Master question
If the candidates have reached the destination with at least one life remaining, they can leave the taxi with the prize; Alternatively, they can answer a so-called master question, through which the participants can double their winnings. If the question is answered incorrectly within a short period of time, the candidates have to leave the taxi without profit. The remaining jokers cannot be used.
Locations
The current locations are Vienna, Graz, Innsbruck, Salzburg, Linz, St Pölten, Bregenz, Eisenstadt, Klagenfurt.
Quiz Taxi eXtrem
Quiz Taxi eXtrem worked on the same principle as Quiz Taxi Austria, with the difference that these special editions were filmed at night and their tasks were partially supplemented with so-called "extreme tasks". In this format, too, there was the passer-by and telephone joker, but here the jokers were also adapted to the name. With the passer-by joker, for example, the candidates had to ring the doorbell of someone else's house, ask the cashier at the McDrive for help or shout their question into the crowd in a busy square. The first broadcast was on October 23, 2011, a double episode was always shown on Sundays at 10:15 p.m. Since the start of the second season of Quiz Taxi Austria, Quiz Taxi eXtrem is no longer an independent program; it was incorporated into the regular format.
