qutIM is a free instant messenger for various protocols. The program is under the GNU General Public License and is available for various operating systems. It is programmed with C ++ and Qt .

history

The development of the client began in January 2008. The aim of the developers was to program an instant messenger with a user-friendly interface for Linux . The client is most widespread in the home country of its developers ( Russia ) and in Eastern Europe. qutIM is gaining more and more attention from Linux users, but the client is also popular with QIP users because it looks similar and therefore offers a free alternative.

Version 0.2 was released on October 31, 2009 and was already included in many Linux distributions . There were also versions for Windows and macOS . In contrast to the previous version, which was a pure ICQ client, additional protocols are now supported.

The current version 0.3 was programmed from scratch and got a new user interface. The integration of libpurple supports many other protocols. Other new functions include: a. Meta contacts and a global status menu. In April 2011, qutIM and other clients received official permission from the Mail.ru group to use the ICQ protocol or the ICQ server.
