history
The project was started by Adam Iser. The first version 1.0 was released in September 2001 and only supported AIM . Adium 1.0 was initially renewed up to version 1.6. This was followed by a somewhat unusual versioning .
The development team changed large parts of Adium to include other protocols. Originally this was supposed to be released as "Adium 2.0", but because of the big differences between Adium 1.0 and the newly written version, the program was renamed "Adium X". They started with “Adium X 0.50”. This type of designation lasted until Adium X 0.89.1. Finally, the developers decided to drop the "X" and return to "Adium". On February 2, 2007, "Adium 1.0" was released.
Adium X 0.88 and newer versions appear as universal binaries and thus ran natively on both PowerPC and x86 (Intel) -based Apple computers. Versions from 1.5 onwards only support x86-based systems.
