The Rákóczi Bridge , from 1995 to 2011 Lágymányos Bridge , ( Hungarian Rákóczi híd, Lágymányosi híd ) is the second youngest of nine road bridges across the Danube in Hungary's capital Budapest .

It was originally supposed to be completed for Expo 95 . It was built between 1992 and 1995 to relieve the Petőfi bridge . It is located right next to the Southern Railway Bridge and weighs 6,800 tons. It has five 35 meter high mast pylons in the bridge axis, at the tips of which protruding light reflectors are attached for illumination.

tram

When the bridge was built, it was planned to equip it with tram tracks. Initially, however, only the lanes for road traffic were created; a special track body was kept free between the directional lanes for the later inclusion of the tracks. The tram line 1 ended from the year 2000 on the Pest side at a provisional terminal on the eastern bridge ramp. The construction work to extend Line 1 over the Rákóczi Bridge began in spring 2014 and should actually be completed with the start of operations in January 2015. However, extensive load tests delayed commissioning. On February 12, 2015, a final load test was carried out with four Combino trams and twenty loaded trucks and then the approval for the commissioning of the tram route was given. On March 20, 2015, passenger service on the extended line 1 began.
