Rémi Ochlik
Rémi Ochlik (born October 16, 1983 in Thionville , Moselle department , † February 22, 2012 in Homs , Syria ) was a French photographer .
Life
Ochlik studied photography at icart photo in Paris and began his career as a crisis reporter in Haiti in 2004 . A year later he founded the photo agency IP3 Press and was awarded the Prix des Espoirs . This was followed by work on the civil war in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (2008) and reports from what happened after the 2010 earthquake in Haiti . His picture of an insurgent during the civil war in Libya was named one of the 2012 press photos .
On February 22, 2012, Ochlik was killed in an artillery attack on a house in Bab al-Amr, a district of Homs, during the civil war in Syria . Journalist Marie Colvin also died in the attack and other Western journalists were injured.
