The Réserve écologique de la Grande-Rivière is a protected area established in 2001 on an area of ​​173 km² in the south of the Canadian province of Québec .

It is located in the regional county municipality of Le Rocher-Percé on the eastern tip of the Gaspésie Peninsula and protects the contiguous area of ​​the upper reaches of the La Grande Rivière over a length of 40 km, as well as that of its tributaries. This river should not be confused with the Ottawa , which is often called "la Grande Rivière" or "the Grand River", or with La Grande Rivière in the northwest of the province.

The area is largely untouched by human interference and major forest fires. In addition to the ecosystem, this also ensures the drinking water supply for the city of Grande-Rivière on the coast. Below the reserve there is an area of ​​limited economic exploitation.

The tree species in the protected area include black spruce , balsam fir , occidental arborvitae , and occasionally paper birch . Red maple , yellow and paper birch can also be found in the higher-lying areas in the southeast, and one of the northernmost occurrences of sugar maple and yellow birch is found in the area at the Grande Rivière Est .

Numerous other plant species can be found in the protected area, such as the Ruprechts fern ( Gymnocarpium robertianum ), but also Alpine winter fern ( Woodsia alpina ) or Dryas drummondii from the genus of Silberwurzen . The latter is a relic of the last ice age ; otherwise the plant does not occur again until 1500 km further north.

In addition to these, Arnica lonchophylla subsp. lonchophylla from the genus arnica since 2001, and the queen lady's slipper ( Cypripedium reginae ) as endangered. The Asters d'Anticosti , the asters of Anticosti, are fully protected .

The Atlantic salmon , the golden eagle and the white-tailed deer are protected .
