The Río Hondo or Hondo River is a 209 km long border river between Belize and Mexico .

The Río Hondo is formed by several rivers such as the Río Azul (later in Belize Blue Creek) and Chanchich (Río Bravo), which arise in the Peten Basin in Guatemala, and the Booth's River , which arises in the Orange Walk District in Belize. At Blue Creek Village on the Belizean side and La Unión on the Mexican side, the rivers unite to form the Río Hondo. After 150 kilometers it flows into the Bay of Chetumal in the Caribbean Sea near the Mexican city of Chetumal . Pre-Columbian Mayan settlements were also found near the river . It drains an area of ​​13,500 km².
