The Río Lauricocha is an approximately 85 km long river in the Peruvian Andes and the right source river of the Rio Marañón .

It was recognized as the Amazonian upland until the Apurímac source was discovered in 1975 .

The Río Lauricocha rises in the Cordillere Raura at the 5500  m high Torre de Cristal ("crystal tower ") and flows through the lakes Caballococha , Tinquicocha , Chuspi , Patarcocha and Lauricocha . It flows mainly in a northerly direction, passes the city of Jesús and joins north of Jivia with the Río Nupe to form the Río Marañón, the water-rich source river of the Amazon .
