The Catholic Church of the Assumption of Mary in the Marzell district of the Malsburg-Marzell community in the Lörrach district is a branch church built in the 1950s .

history

The church, designed after the Freiburg architect Richard Gleissle, was built from 1953 to 1954. It was consecrated on April 19, 1954 by Vicar General Simon Hirt. The original glazing, which in addition to depicting Pentecost, the birth of Christ, Mary in Heaven, also shows the Holy Family and the Annunciation in Nazarene style , was replaced in 1967 in favor of simple lead glazing.

description

The rectangular hall building with a gable roof has a roof turret above its east gable , which is crowned by a pyramid roof , a tower ball and a cross. The roof turret has a sound opening on each side . On the long sides of the nave there are slightly suggested supporting pillars between the three rectangular windows. A round window is located above the main entrance on the east facade, which is protected by a pent roof . In the west there is a recessed, square extension with a saddle roof, in which the sacristy is housed.

In the altar is a Gothic crucifixion group, which originally stood in the Catholic Church of St. Franz von Sales in Kandern and is on loan from the Augustinian Museum.

There are two bronze bells in the roof turret. The gis ′ ′ bell was cast by Benjamin Grüninger in 1905 , the smaller e ′ ′ bell was made in 1663 in the Hans Ulrich Roth foundry from Basel and hung in either the Martinskirche or the chapel in Steinenstadt until 1812 and later in the cemetery chapel in Kandern .
