The Río Mulatos is an approximately 175 km long tributary of the Caribbean Sea in the northwest of Colombia .

River course

The Río Mulatos rises in the Serranía de Abibe at an altitude of about 600  m , 14 km east of the city of Apartadó . It flows in a predominantly northerly direction through the Departamento de Antioquia . At river kilometer 90 it cuts through a low ridge and then turns west for a distance of 30 km before flowing north-northwest towards the sea for the last 50 kilometers. The village of Mulatos is located near the mouth . The river shows a strongly meandering behavior in the middle and lower reaches with numerous river bends and oxbow lakes.

Hydrology

The catchment area covers approximately 1400 km². The mean discharge is 10.5 m³ / s.
