The Río Pinturas is an Argentine river in the Patagonian province of Santa Cruz with a total length of 150 kilometers. It is the main tributary of the Deseado River .
The Río Pinturas has its source in the Andes , more precisely in the small Monte Zeballos massif (2,743 meters above sea level), which is located south of Lake Buenos Aires . It flows first to the east, where it bears the name Río Ecker for about a hundred kilometers . It then flows north towards Río Deseado, crossing a magnificent mountain gorge that houses the famous Cueva de las Manos , a World Heritage Site .
