The Río Polochic is a 240 km long river in Guatemala . It rises in the south of the Alta Verapaz department , a few kilometers east of Tactíc . It flows between the Sierra de Chamá in the north and the Sierra de las Minas in the south in an easterly direction through the Motagua-Polochic fault and flows into Lake Izabal . The last 30 km from Panzós are navigable. In the past, this section was used for the transport of coffee and wood .
