The Roman villa of Rabaçal in Rabaçal near Penela dates from the 4th century AD , according to coins found there. It was located near the Roman road from Olisipo ( Lisbon ) to Bracara Augusta ( Braga ) in Portugal .

The excavations started in 1984 exposed the ground plan of a villa, the center of which is an octagonal peristyle around which the other rooms are grouped symmetrically. The economic area was located in the north, the living area in the west. The mosaics now covered for protection form a separate group. They differ markedly from the others found in the country.

Every spring a cheese market for the local cheese specialty Queijo Rabaçal takes place here. a. also commemorates the Roman era with performances.
