history

Originally built in 1927 only as an outdoor pool, in 1964 a further 50-meter outdoor pool was added, which ten years later became an all-year-round indoor pool with an air dome . In 1989 the air dome was dismantled for reasons of age and during the planning phase for a new roofing solution, the swimming pool was again a purely outdoor pool until the construction of a permanent roofing began in 1990. The time of renovation and planning was a dry spell for the previously very successful local swimming clubs, which now had to move to the 20-meter swimming pool at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität for almost four years for training and, as a result, many talented swimmers to foreign swimming clubs and lost their regular place in the 1st Bundesliga swimming . The new swimming pool was completed in 1992 and inaugurated under the name of Röthelheimbad indoor pool . From then on things started to improve again with Erlangen's swimming sport, SSG 81 Erlangen , for which the new 50-meter indoor swimming pool became the home pool. As one of five indoor swimming pools in Bavaria with a 50 m swimming lane, the indoor swimming pool allowed professional training conditions for swimming.

In 2003, the renovation of the entrance and changing rooms of the swimming pool began. With the inauguration of this renovation in 2004, the swimming pool was renamed "Hannah-Stockbauer-Halle" at the suggestion of Jürgen Thiel from the Erlangen swimming club and the then mayor of Erlangen, Siegfried Balleis .

In 2008 the outdoor area was closed and completely renovated for two years after the outdoor pool season. The "new" outdoor pool called Röthelheimbad was officially opened in 2010. The common entrance area and the changing rooms were new, and the Hannah-Stockbauer-Halle itself was not renovated .
