The Röttler pond is a winning designation in the urban area of Lörrach . It is also known as the Haagener Mühleteich .

The term pond for a water canal sounds misleading today, but it is an old Upper German term for a ditch ( see also: dike ; cf. English "Ditch"), in the northern Black Forest even for natural creek ditches. This canal is diverted from the Wiese river two kilometers above the Haagener Wuhr and returned to the river 500 m below the Röttler pond in Tumringen . There are two small hydropower plants in the canal section. The middle part of the canal is - colloquially - referred to as the Röttler pond. The name is made up of pond , as it is artificially created and Röttler comes from the Rötteln Castle in the immediate vicinity.

The pond is a testimony to industrialization in the Wiesental (→ Lörrach's path to industrialization ). The ponds in the Wiesental were already created in the Middle Ages, mostly in former branches of the meadow. Thanks to the ponds, the water from the meadow could be used in a controlled manner for milling and watering the mats. With the onset of industrialization, the Haagen plant and the Rötteln plant of the Sarasin-Heussler company were founded at the Röttler pond in the 19th century.

The Haagener Mühleteich once drove six wheels, those of the Hofmühle with oil trot, or pestle and hemp grater, the new oils, then the saw gates and finally the turbines of the factories, the two spinning mills in Haagen and Rötteln . In the early 20th century the mills were shut down and in the second half of the 20th century the spinning mills had to be abandoned. At the Röttler pond, only the Oberbadische Bettfederfabrik and the two hydropower plants are left, while the textile finishing, most recently as Mögro furniture wholesalers, was demolished after a fire.
