Return to Krondor (English original title: Return to Krondor ) is a computer role-playing game , which plays on the world Midkemia created by Raymond Feist in his fantasy novels . It is the second, but independent, part of the 1993 Betrayal at Krondor .

action

The story revolves around Junker James, a former thief, and his companions: Jazhara, a magician from Kesh, William, a fighter and friend of James, Solon, a priest, and Kendaric, an alchemist and magician. This group is looking for the "Tear of the Gods", a sacred artifact stolen by pirates led by a brutal giant man named "Bear". During the attack on the ship with which the artifact was transported, it was so badly damaged that it sank together with the artifact.

The first chapters take place in the city of Krondor, in night streets and houses, in shops and taverns, in temples and the sewer system. The group later parted company: While William followed Bear with a group of soldiers, the rest of the group had to accompany Kendaric, who had a magic that could save the ship in which the gods' tear lay on the seabed.

Gameplay

The combat system is turn-based, but you have to - in contrast to z. B. Final Fantasy - also consider the premises. In order to strike or to shoot with the bow, one must adopt a suitable position. For certain distances you lose "round points", which limit the possible actions per round. The magicians can also cast spells and scrolls with magic can be used. As characters level up, points can be allocated to certain skills. For example, James is a skilled thief and the right choice when it comes to cracking chests and locks. The magicians, on the other hand, can improve certain areas of magic (wind, fire, etc.) or the ability to brew potions. Some basic values such as blade combat, staff combat, bow, defense etc. are present in all characters in the group. Numerous items can improve melee, armor and magic stats. Some of them are only available through dealers, but most of them can be found as loot, some of them randomly.

The game follows a linear storyline, only some side quests are optional. The urban environment is followed by battles in the open air and in classic "dungeons".

successor

The subtitle "Book 1: Harbinger of Shadows" and the open ending already indicate that the game is the first part of a planned series. However, the series was never continued, and there are no plans to do so.
