Rüdiger Kniep

Rüdiger Kniep (born May 2, 1945 in Straubing ) is a German chemist.

life and work

Kniep studied chemistry and mineralogy at the TU Braunschweig until 1971 . He was a research assistant at the Max Planck Institute for Solid State Research in Stuttgart, and received his doctorate from the Technical University of Braunschweig in 1973. After a post-doctoral stay, he worked at the Institute for Inorganic Chemistry at the University of Düsseldorf , where he completed his habilitation. There he was appointed professor in 1980. In 1987 he accepted a position at TU Darmstadt , where he headed the Eduard Zintl Institute for Inorganic Chemistry. From 1998 until his retirement in 2012, Kniep was Director at the Max Planck Institute for Chemical Physics of Solids in Dresden .

The focus of his scientific work is solid-state chemistry and biomineralization .
