Rüdiger Sweet

Rüdiger Süß (born July 1, 1972 in Erlabrunn ; † May 8, 1998 in Linz , Upper Austria ) was a German rally driver who lived in Bernsbach .

Career

Rüdiger Süß has been driving together with his older brother Olaf Süß in the German Rally Championship and in the German Cinquecento Trofeo since 1994 . The greatest successes included several second places at the European Rally Championship in the Cinquecento class.

Deadly accident

On May 1, 1998, a serious accident occurred at the European championship run for the 9th International Pyhrn-Eisenwurzen Rally in Kirchdorf an der Krems, Austria . On the first special stage, the Fiat Cinquecento of the Süß brothers slipped with the passenger side against a concrete wall.

In this accident, the passenger and brother Olaf died at the scene of the accident. Rüdiger Süß was injured so badly that he died of the consequences of his injuries after a week in the Linz hospital. The brothers Rüdiger and Olaf were buried in the Bernsbach cemetery in the Erzgebirge district.
