Rüdiger Weiß (born November 29, 1960 in Bergkamen ) is a German politician ( SPD ). He has been a directly elected member of the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia since 2010.

biography

After graduating from high school in Bergkamen, Rüdiger Weiß began studying German and sports at the Ruhr University in Bochum . After passing his state examination, he taught at schools in Ratingen, Menden and Lünen. In 2005, Rüdiger Weiß became director of the Heide secondary school in Bergkamen, which he headed until he moved into the North Rhine-Westphalia state parliament in 2010. Rüdiger Weiß lives in Oberaden with his wife and son .

politics

Rüdiger Weiß joined the SPD in 1983 and was chairman of the Bergkamen City Association of Jusos from 1985 to 1990 . Since 1992 he has been chairman of the Oberaden local association. He has represented his party on Bergkamen's city ​​council since 1989 .

In May 2010 he was elected to the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia in the state electoral district of Unna III - Hamm II in the state election 2010 . Here Rüdiger Weiß got the best election result of the Social Democrats in North Rhine-Westphalia for this election. In the early state elections in North Rhine-Westphalia in 2012 , he got the best first vote result for the SPD after the then Prime Minister Hannelore Kraft . In the 2017 NRW state elections , Rüdiger Weiß again won a direct mandate in the Unna III - Hamm II state electoral district. This year, as in 2010, he achieved the best first vote result for the SPD in this state election.

His political work focuses on European politics and international cooperation. Since the beginning of the 17th legislative period, Rüdiger Weiß has been the spokesman for Europe and international affairs for the SPD parliamentary group. In addition, school and education policy as well as sport and local policy are among his areas of work.

Rüdiger Weiß is committed to continuing EU regional funding beyond 2020. Further Europe-related projects for which he is campaigning are a reform of the EU posting guidelines and an intensification of the NRW-Benelux cooperation with special consideration of the social and labor law dimension. In addition, he advocates the orderly reintroduction of the G9 and the further expansion of ERASMUS + .
