The Rügener Personennahverkehrs GmbH ( RPNV ) was the largest transport company on the island of Rügen . The RPNV served the entire island of Rügen and the Hanseatic city of Stralsund with over 25 lines as well as an island bus line for the neighboring island of Hiddensee . After the district reform of 2011 , it became part of the Vorpommern-Rügen Transport Company (VVR).

history

The company was founded in 1992 as a GmbH by the district of Rügen and emerged from the " VEB Kraftverkehr Rügen" founded around 1953 . In the past, in addition to regular passenger traffic, goods were also transported. The company was founded with four buses, tractors, trucks and taxis; later a part belonged to the Stralsund company "Kraftverkehr Ostseetrans Stralsund". Today, RPNV is the largest transport company on the island of Rügen with around 100 employees. In December 2013, the district of Vorpommern-Rügen decided on the new local transport plan for the district. From some changes in the timetable to the minimum offer, this also includes the merger of the RPNV with the Stralsund local transport, KVG and the Verkehrsgemeinschaft Nordvorpommern to form the Verkehrsgesellschaft Vorpommern-Rügen mbH (VVR).
