Rümpfwald

The Rümpfwald is a wooded area in the Zwickau district in Saxony .

The approximately 750 hectare Rümpfwald lies between Lichtenstein , Mülsen , Niederlungwitz , Stangendorf , St. Egidien , Glauchau , Thurm and Voigtlaide . It is the second largest closed forest area in the Ore Mountains Basin .

While until the end of the 18th century the Rümpfwald consisted of beeches , oaks , alders and linden trees mainly of fir and white spruce , larches and spruces have been planted since then .

An excursion destination is hidden: the “Stone Cow”, a natural monument in the shape of an animal. It is a bulbous stone made of brown coal quartzite .

Since July 12, 1968, the Rümpfwald has partially the status of a landscape protection area ( Am Rümpfwald ).

In the Rümpfwalde the convalescent home was located for the district of the Glauchau i. Sa. with a post office.
