Rütli (literary group)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Rütli , also Das Rütli , Rytly and Rytli , was founded on December 9th, 1852 by members of the tunnel over the Spree : as "a kind of secondary tunnel " ( Fontane ). For more private meetings they wanted to evade the somewhat stiff ceremonial and above all the journalistic abstinence of the tunnel and met once a week at one of the members. A special - compared to the tunnel, additional - attraction was that the wives were also "allowed"; admittedly only after the “work” in the second (not literary-artistic) part and above all because it provided food and drink.

The members made a clear distinction between the “original Rütlions” and the “later ones”. Initially, the founding date was solemnly commemorated every December 9th. But since this date almost always got lost in the celebrations of the Tunnel Foundation Festival on December 3rd, it was rescheduled to February 5th.

Here, too - just like the tunnel meeting - guests were invited: Berthold Auerbach , Friedrich von Bodenstedt , Eduard Devrient u. v. m.

The Rütli existed until around 1897 ; on January 5th, 1897 Fontane wrote to Lazarus: “... that the Rütli fell asleep is a blessing; he was a mourning image for years. "
