The R-boat or 20er dinghy cruiser ( 20er ) is a dinghy cruiser with a measured sail area of 20 m² upwind. The sailing symbol is "R". The name "20er dinghy cruiser" does not result from the entire sail area on the wind, which can be significantly higher, but is determined by the so-called silhouette of the mast. This means that the main sail area and the part of the foresail that lies in the visible sail triangle is measured. For this reason, the overlap of the genoa (up to 19 m²) is not included in the calculation. The result is a close-hauled sail area of max. 30 m² and the maximum possible sail area in front of the wind is around 70 m².
