RMB was a rave formation from Düsseldorf . The name is derived from the initials of Rolf Maier-Bode (born March 6, 1974 in Berlin ), who founded the project together with Farid Gharadjedaghi (born May 26, 1974 in Tehran ) in the early 1990s.
history
Maier-Bode was already producing music before RMB. In 1992 and 1993 he recorded the album Trax for the record label "Adam & Eve" under the name RMB Trax Musik , where Farid Gharadjedaghi worked as a manager. Via Gharadjedaghi Maier-Bode came to the label "Le Petit Prince" for which Gharadjedaghi also worked. In 1994, “ Low Spirit ”, the most successful technology label in Germany at the time, was followed by the first jointly produced single Redemption .
The first album This World Is Yours (extracts: Redemption , Love Is an Ocean , Experience and Passport to Heaven ) was released in 1995 and was more in the rave genre, the second album Widescreen , released in 1998 (extracts: Spring , Reality , Shadows and Break the Silence ), on the other hand, mainly contained pieces from the field of trance . What both albums had in common was that their pieces were characterized by rhythmic overlays of voices and the unusual use of samples, which were arranged with the sounds of classical instruments (pan flute, string ensemble, piano). Fans also appreciate the great variety of musical variations: The music ranged from Hardcore Techno ( The Place to Be ) to Techno ( Fighting for a Fine Place ), Trance ( Spring , Reality ), Happy Hardcore ( Experience , Chakka Chakka ) and Breakbeat ( No Women No Kids ) to Ambient ( Anyway , Everything ).
After the album Widescreen , RMB's own label “Various Music Recordings” was founded with the sublabels “Various Silver” and “Various Delight”. The two musicians switched to the “Polydor Zeitgeist” label in June 2000.
2001 saw the release of the third album Mission Horizon , which broke with the style of the previous albums and essentially contained more house influences ( Reflections ). Maier-Bode and Gharadjedaghi developed the ambient structures for a new work that was important for the project: Zeitwand . For the first time in the band's history, a track was given a German name. It was also noticeable that a large number of sound levels were used in a harmoniously simple structure. The album Mission Horizon 2.0 followed in 2002 as a new edition of the first version, which instead of Open Eyes with Redemption 2.0 contained a remix of the 1994 single. The accompanying video showed scenes from a short film by Martin Weisz, LA. ( 60 Seconds ), which also ran at numerous festivals. In 2003 the release of RMB & Friends - A Tribute to Ten Years RMB , a compilation of numerous remixes of previously released tracks, followed. Artists like Blank & Jones , Ramon Zenker , Westbam , DJ Tomcraft , Talla 2XLC , Terry Lee Brown Jr. , Klaus Jankuhn , Sharam Jey and many others contributed to it.
In 2004 and 2005 there were still a few releases from RMB on their own record label "Silver / Various", but they were only released on vinyl and as online downloads. These include the double singles Feel the Flame / Touch the Sky , Gangster / Killer and April / Beauty of Simplicity . Evolution , the last album, which is stylistically a mixture of trance and breakbeat, was no longer released as a CD as planned , but was only released as an online download on May 1st, 2009.
The group had split up in 2006 after their last appearances on Nature One and Goliath. Rolf Maier-Bode and Farid Gharadjedaghi have been producing solo music ever since.
Movie quotes
The use of samples from more or less well-known film quotes is characteristic of many RMB pieces . This includes quotes from Sieben in the track Fighting for a Fine Place and from Leon der Profi in the track Everything from the album Widescreen . On the same album, Madman's Legend features various samples from the film 12 Monkeys . One of the most famous quotes in the pieces of music is probably the monologue in the plane by Lt. Col. Frank Slade from The Scent of Women (1992) , which is played at the beginning of the album version of Passport to Heaven and from which the title was derived.
