history

The company was founded in 1903 as a trading company for fittings and plumbing tools by the married couple Marie and Rudolf Nussbaum-Bürgi in Olten. Four years later, the foundry began manufacturing its own products . In 1920 the R. Nussbaum & Co. AG company was converted into a stock corporation.

After Rudolf Nussbaum's death, the company passed to his four sons in 1928. They expanded the company and in 1968 handed over the company, which had grown to 300 employees, to the third generation. With the generation change at the end of the 1960s, there was also a change in strategy. Previously, small series were also produced, but under the new management the company concentrated on the building, industrial and laboratory fittings segment. As a result, the production facilities were expanded and a network of branches throughout Switzerland was established. At the end of 2002, Dr. Roy Nussbaum and Urs Nussbaum, the fourth generation, have overall operational responsibility, as delegates of the board of directors, of the successful company. The company was continuously developed under the new management. An automated central warehouse was put into operation in 2004, a new production plant in 2009 and the “Optinauta” customer house in Trimbach near Olten in 2011. New branches were opened in Gwatt-Thun (2008), Zug (2009), Buchs-SG (2011) and Winterthur (2014). Thanks to product innovations - such as the world's first launch of a nickel-free stainless steel tube generation in 2007 or Optiflex-Profix in 2009 - sales exceeded the 170 MCHF mark for the first time in 2010. At the beginning of 2012 the management was expanded to 6 members with Michael and Andreas Nussbaum, also the fourth generation of the family.
