The RA 001 to 004 series of accumulator railcars were experimental vehicles that were put into operation by the Italian rail company Società per le Strade Ferrate Meridionali , operator of the Rete Adriatica , from 1901 onwards. The vehicle construction part was made by the vehicle manufacturer Diatto in Turin , the batteries and electrical equipment were supplied by the company Ganz in Hungary .

The vehicles were based in Bologna and were tested on the routes from there to Modena and San Felice . Due to problems, the vehicles were taken out of service again in 1903.
