RS Canum Venaticorum is a binary star about 450 light years away . It is the prototype of the RS Canum Venaticorum stars , which belong to the Eruptive Variable Stars . In contrast to many other stars of the RS-CVn type, this star is also an eclipsing algal star . The variability of this star system was discovered as early as 1914.

Component A is a subgiant of spectral class F6, while its companion is also a subgiant of spectral class G8.
