Roško Polje (also written Raško Polje ) is a village and a plateau in the southwestern part of Bosnia-Herzegovina directly on the Croatian border. The plateau is located in the southwest of the Tomislavgrad municipality . The residents are Croatians .

geography

The Roško Polje area is mountainous and heavily karstified and is approx. 916 m high. The climate is continental with short, warm summers and cold, snowy winters. Except for a few villages, the plain is hardly populated. In addition to the eponymous village Roško Polje, there are also the villages Krnjin, Vojkovići, Pavlovići, Radoši, Zaljiće, Hambar, Kosica, Zidine and Vranjače on the plateau.

history

The village was founded in 1758. The first church was built and opened in the years 1854-1859. Around 1970 the community of Roško Polje had about 2500 inhabitants. Due to political circumstances and extensive emigration, there are now only around 850 inhabitants who live under difficult conditions. The youth have little prospect of work. In addition, the road infrastructure is very poor. Up until the laying of the water pipes in 2009/2010, the water supply was only possible via rainwater supply. There are also no nearby industrial centers or metropolitan areas. Most of the barren soil allows only potatoes to be grown. The village has two schools. Around 100 students attend the school in Kosica, another is in Vojkovići.

Several thousand people from Roško Polje and their descendants live scattered around the world, as people emigrated as " guest workers " for both political and economic reasons . This more recent emigration mainly began in the 1960s and continues to this day in a weakened form. Many of them live in German-speaking countries.

Sports

The Roško Polje football team won the municipal league in 2008 and 2011. In 2011, the village beat Stipanjići on penalties 6-4.
