Rav Aschi
Rav ( Rab ) Aschi (honorary title Rabbana Aschi ; * around 352, † around 427) is one of the most important Amoraese , and here for the sixth generation in Babylonia .
He came from a very wealthy family and was one of the four chief editors of the Babylonian Talmud . He is said to have headed the Lehrhaus in Sura for 52 years and studied the entire Talmud, a large part of it, twice during the kala months .
Together with Ravina he is considered the final editor of the Babylonian Talmud. He was a student of Kahana and Amemar , whom he often quotes. Because of his special abilities and his personality - he was compared to Jehuda Hanassi (bGitt 59a, Sanh 36a) - he was considered an important law teacher of his time.
