The Rabenstein north of Ermengerst is a boulder in the municipality of Wiggensbach in the Oberallgäu district .

Location and description

It is located on the geological unit of the Allgäu Alps , in the natural area of ​​the Iller foothills and consists of conglomerates of the bunk layers of the lower freshwater molasse . It has a length of twelve meters, a width of eight meters and a height of four meters. The natural monument has an area of ​​96 square meters and is designated by the Bavarian State Office for the Environment as Geotope 780R011. During the melting of the Kempten Glacier during the Würm glacial period ( Young Pleistocene ), the boulder was deposited in its current location. There are two small dead ice holes adjacent .
