Radio WSW is a local radio and television station in Weißwasser / Oberlausitz , produced by Radio WSW GmbH. The letters "WSW" are borrowed from the license plate of the former district of Weißwasser .

history

Radio WSW received its broadcasting license on September 15, 1992 from the Saxon State Media Authority (SLM). One year later, in August 1993, Radio WSW went on air in the cable network of Weißwasser-Süd on the frequency 99.20 MHz. At that time, almost 10,000 households were reached in this large development area. In the same year the television program started on the TV channel K03. The transmission area was expanded for the first time with the activation in 1995 in the head station Muskauer Straße. A year later, it was also fed into the cable network of the city of Bad Muskau, seven kilometers away . In the years that followed, the programs were also broadcast in the Weißwasser cable network of Deutsche Telekom (now Vodafone Kabel Deutschland ) and in the antenna systems in the surrounding towns of Boxberg (2001) and Halbendorf , Rohne , Runde and Trebendorf (2002). Since July 4, 2000, the radio program can also be received via antenna in Weißwasser and the surrounding area. In 2004, the Mönchswalder Berg transmitter was added for the Bautzen region . In recent years, the TV program has also been fed into the Brandenburg town of Döbern and the neighboring Friedrichshain . Thus, the TV program reaches around 18,000 households today and 210,000 listeners with the radio program.

Radio program

Radio WSW is a 24-hour program with world news on the hour. The broadcast is from the studio in Weißwasser on Werner-Seelenbinder-Straße. The program is moderated from Monday to Friday from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday mornings will also be moderated live. At this time, news is broadcast every half hour, world news on the hour and regional news on the half hour. Since Radio WSW has been broadcasting for the Bautzen region in 2004, the station no longer uses the claim “Grandiose hits - refreshingly German” and now provides regional information for Upper Lusatia with a focus on Weißwasser and Bautzen. In addition to the normal program, which consists of current and oldie music, special programs such as “Budenzauber” (party music) and “Reiselust aroused” (travel program with listener requests, often with German hits) are produced weekly. Another special program is "Bullyzeit". Radio WSW broadcasts all games of the Lausitzer Füchse ( DEL2 ) moderated from the studio and by an on-site reporter (for away games) or a reporter team (for home games).

Television program

Radio WSW's television program is divided into two areas, the main program and the information channel. The info channel is an animated screen newspaper with current information and is broadcast from 5 a.m. to midnight. Components include news, event tips, sports and search and exchange offers. Video sequences from the region and advertising are shown between the individual blocks. The radio program is used as background music.

The information channel is interrupted by the main program seven times a day. The length of the main program is around 30 to 50 minutes. The content is the regional news and events around Weißwasser, interrupted by an advertising block. Films are often broadcast by neighboring broadcasters. Other fixed program parts that are broadcast at irregular intervals in the main program are, for example, "OB on site", "News from the zoo" and a cooking program. Independent of the regular program, the meetings of the Weißwasser City Council will be broadcast live.

In addition to transmission in the Weißwasser cable networks, reception in the surrounding communities is made possible by special technology. The program is transmitted to the cable head-end stations in the form of an HDSL line (2 Mbit / s) .

Frequencies

The radio program is broadcast via antenna (VHF) on the following frequencies in Upper Lusatia:

  • 89.20 MHz area around Weißwasser (location: Weißwasser, Thomas-Jung-Straße)
  • 94.90 MHz area around Bautzen (location: Wilthen, Mönchswalder Berg )

In addition, the TV and radio programs are distributed in cable networks in Lower and Upper Lusatia.
