Radu Theodorescu (born April 12, 1933 in Bucharest ; † August 14, 2007 ) was a Romanian-Canadian mathematician who dealt with mathematical statistics and probability theory.

His father Dan Theodorescu was a well-known doctor. Thedorescu studied mathematics at the University of Bucharest with the degree in 1954 and received his doctorate in 1958 with Octav Onicescu ( Continuous time Markov Processes and Random Systems with Complete Connections ) (the habilitation followed in 1967 in Bucharest). He was initially at the Mathematical Institute of the Romanian Academy of Sciences and in 1964 became director of the industrial statistics department at the newly established Center for Mathematical Statistics of the Romanian Academy of Sciences. From 1968 until his retirement in 1999 he researched and taught at Laval University .

In 1986 he became a Fellow of the Institute of Mathematical Statistics and in 1989 of the American Society for Quality . He was an honorary member of the Statistical Society of Canada (SSC) and the Societatea de Probabilitati si Statistica din Romania.

From 1970 to 2000 he was co-editor of the journal Optimization , 1981 to 2003 of Statistics and Decisions , 1976 to 1999 of Les Annales Sciences Mathématiques du Québec and 2002 to 2007 of Revstat .

1972/73 he was Vice President of the Statistical Science Association of Canada.

His first marriage was to Anca Florescu, with whom he had a son Dan Theodorescu (* 1962), who became a professor of urology at the University of Virginia. After the divorce in 1982 he married Marie-José Michiels with whom he had a son and a daughter.
