Rafael Ortega (* approx. 1957 in Xalapa , Veracruz ), also known by the nickname El Xalapa after his hometown , is a former Mexican soccer player who mainly played in midfield .

Life

Ortega began his career as a professional player with the Tuberos de Veracruz , with whom he won the championship of the third-rate Tercera División in the 1975/76 season and spent the following two seasons in the second division . He was then committed by city ​​rivals CD Veracruz , with whom he was under contract from 1978 to 1982 and again in his last season in 1989/90. The intervening years from 1982 to 1989 he spent at CF Monterrey , with whom he won the Mexican football championship at Torneo México 86 .

At the age of 33, he ended his active career due to a serious knee injury and returned to Monterrey , where he became an entrepreneur. He is currently working for a youth project at the Universidad Veracruzana .
