The municipality Birawa (Polish Gmina Bierawa ) is a rural municipality in the powiat Kędzierzyńsko-Kozielski (Kandrzin-Cosel district) in the Opole Voivodeship . The parish seat is Birawa (Bierawa). The community is bilingual, Polish and German.

The municipality has an area of 119.24 km², of which 37% are areas for agriculture and infrastructure and 63% are forest areas.

In addition to the Polish population, people (24.6%) stated German nationality (ethnicity) in the 2002 2010 census. In the 2011 census, the percentage of Germans was 17.6% or 1369 people.

Community leader
The head of the municipal administration is the municipality leader . Since 2018, this has been Ryszard Gołębowski, who did not run for the regular election in October 2018. Instead, Krzysztof Ficoń was elected with 85.4% of the vote in the first ballot without any opponents.
Municipal council
The municipal council consists of 15 members and is directly elected in single-person constituencies. The 2018 municipal council election led to the following result:
- Election Committee for the Development of Bierawa Municipality 53.9% of the vote, 9 seats
- Election Committee “Together for the Bierawa Municipality” 34.2% of the vote, 2 seats
- Election committee German minority 12.0% of the votes, 4 seats
