Setup date 2012

The Siesel nature reserve - Jungfernsprung sub-area is a 9.4 hectare nature reserve (NSG) north of the village of Siesel or its industrial area Siesel in the urban area of Plettenberg in the Märkisches Kreis in North Rhine-Westphalia . The NSG was designated in 2012 by the district council of the Märkisches Kreis with the 2nd amendment to the landscape plan No. 1 (Plettenberg-Herscheid-Neuenrade) . The NSG begins directly north of the Siesel industrial park. The federal highway 236 (B 236) lies both east and west of the NSG. In the west only the B 236 separates the NSG from the Lenne . The Ruhr-Sieg railway line crosses the NSG in a tunnel . Only separated by the B 236 is the Siesel nature reserve - Auf dem Pütte sub-area . In the south-west, the Siesel nature reserve - Lenne sub-area is only about 100 m away . While the nature reserve Siesel - sub-area Humme is about 1,000 m to the east.

The area of the nature reserve has been part of the FFH area "Lennealtarm Siesel" (DE-4713-301) with an area of 39 hectares since 2004 .

Area description

The NSG is a hornbeam - red beech forest on the slope and dome of the Jungfernsprung mountain, around which the Lenne lies in the east, south and west. The forest is partly rich in dwarf shrubs. In the NSG there are rocks with special vegetation. The gray woodpecker occurs in the NSG .

Protection purpose

The nature reserve was designated as a habitat for rare and endangered animal and plant species for the preservation and development of a grove beech forest, a circulating mountain of the Lenne, with natural rock formations, partly with dwarf shrub-rich hardwood. As with other nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation indicated that the area became a nature reserve “because of its scenic beauty and uniqueness”.

Under special prohibitions , the landscape plan stated “to use the indigenous forest areas (Hainsimsen-Buchenwald; dwarf-shrub-rich hardwood stands on the slopes and hilltops) for forestry purposes; the exception is the use of individual logs according to the provisions of the Lower Landscape Authority ”.
