Remmestoth nature reserve

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Remmestoth nature reserve is a 1.3 hectare nature reserve (NSG) northeast of the Leinschede district of the town of Plettenberg in the Märkisches Kreis in North Rhine-Westphalia . The NSG was designated in 1985 by the district council of the Märkisches Kreis with the landscape plan No. 1 (Plettenberg-Herscheid-Neuenrade) . The name was the nature reserve Schluchtwald "Remmestoth" on the L 619 northeast of the district of Leinschede, town of Plettenberg . With the 2nd change to the landscape plan No. 1 (Plettenberg-Herscheid-Neuenrade), the NSG was designated again in 2012 and renamed the Remmestoth nature reserve .

Area description

The NSG is a red beech forest on a canyon forest site with a stream. In the old beech wood stock of the upper part of the slope there is a small-scale mixed maple forest. The beech forest of the nature reserve is predominantly an acidic grove beech forest, which merges into a woodruff beech forest in the north. In the south, directly below the state road, there is a north-exposed maple canyon or hillside debris forest with an extensive population of the perennial silver leaf . Some old trees have strong wood, locally there is dead wood. With the herds of silver leaf, dead wood and thick wood, the gorge forest has a wild and rustic forest appearance over small areas. The forest biotope complex of the Remmestoth nature reserve is a near-natural refuge biotope within the Lennegebirge between Werdohl and Rönkhausen .

A previously existing seepage source could no longer be found in a mapping by the State Office for Nature, Environment and Consumer Protection in North Rhine-Westphalia in the early 2000s . Since this area was heavily used shortly before the mapping as part of forestry measures with wood harvesters , colloquially mostly called harvesters.

Protection purpose

The nature reserve was designated as a habitat for rare and endangered animal and plant species for the preservation and development of a beech forest on a ravine forest site including a stream and a seepage spring. As with other nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation indicated that the area became a nature reserve “because of its scenic beauty and uniqueness”.

Under special prohibitions , the landscape plan stated “to use the indigenous forest areas (beech forest) for forestry purposes; the exception is the use of individual logs according to the provisions of the Lower Landscape Authority ”.

The specialist information system of the State Office for Nature, Environment and Consumer Protection North Rhine-Westphalia writes about the NSG: The preservation of near-natural forest communities has a high priority in the natural area. It is essential to refrain from any forestry use of the small ravine forest.
