The Crystal

The Crystal is an enclosed 300 meter long horizontal airlift that spans four of the buildings. It is 32.5 m wide and 26.5 m high. The exterior is made up of approximately 3,000 sheets of glass and nearly 5,000 sheets of aluminum. The Crystal consists of nine parts. Four were built on top of the towers and the three middle pieces were prefabricated, lifted from the ground and installed.

Inside the airlift there are two swimming pools, restaurants, a gallery, gardens with trees and a lookout point.

design

The project was designed by the architect Moshe Safdie. Inspired by Chinese sailing ships, it pays homage to Chongqing's historic past as a maritime trading center.

The project is similar to the Marina Bay Sands in Singapore, which was designed by the same architect.
