Ragnar Jändel

Ragnar Jändel (born April 13, 1895 on Jämjö ; † May 6, 1939 in Ronneby ) was a Swedish writer and poet .

biography

Ragnar Jändel was the son of the painter August Jändel and Kristina Jonasdotter and grew up, together with four siblings, in poor circumstances on Jämjö , in southern Sweden. During the First World War he attended Brunnsvik Adult Education Center (1915-1917), with Dan Andersson and Harry Blomberg, among others , who were good friends of Jändels. Like many young poets of the time, he started out as a working class writer. Not least because of the religious tone in his works, he was ignored by the dogmatic left and the press. Jändel's style later became an idyllic natural lyric . His work includes poems , novels and essays . His consideration of the flora of “Blommor” from 1937 has a special place.

Ragnar Jändel was married twice and had a son from his first marriage.

Björn Wikholm has been setting a number of Jändel's poems to music since 1982, including “Ungdom” and “Lärkan”.

In his birthplace Jämjö, a school was named after Ragnar Jändel.

In 1993, a reconstruction of the Jändels birth house was built on the site of the now dilapidated birth house.
