Dan Andersson
Daniel "Dan" Andersson (born April 6, 1888 in Skattlösberg ( Dalarna ), † September 16, 1920 in Stockholm ) was a Swedish working-class poet and poet.
Life
Andersson grew up in great poverty, the son of a village school teacher. He worked in several professions, including as a farmhand and forest worker. In addition, Andersson attended Brunnsvik Volkshochschule at the same time as Ragnar Jändel and later became a teacher himself. As such, he also worked for the Ny Tid newspaper in Stockholm.
From 1913 Andersson worked as a freelance writer. His short stories made him one of Sweden's most important working-class poets. In addition, he was always concerned with religious questions. He was also known for his translations of the works of Charles Baudelaire and Rudyard Kipling .
A large number of the poems composed in his short lifetime have been set to music. Today they are part of the general Swedish song treasure trove, but are also available as recordings by several well-known singers.
In September 1920 Andersson traveled to Stockholm, where he was hoping for a job with the newspaper Social-Demokrats (The Social Democrats). He stayed at the Hellman Hotel in room number 11 on Bryggaregatan . Unfortunately, the hotel staff had previously tried to free the room from insects by spraying it with hydrogen cyanide and then, contrary to the regulations, did not ventilate the room sufficiently. Andersson was fatally poisoned by inhaling the poison while staying at a hotel on the night of September 16, and died at 3 p.m. at the age of only 32. Apart from Andersson, the insurance inspector Elliot Eriksson from Bollnäs died from the same poisoning .
