Ragusa language

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ragusa , after Ragusa , the Romance name of the city of Dubrovnik in today's Croatia , in the extreme south of the Croatian coast, is a language that is now extinct .

Linguistically, Ragusa is mostly subordinate to Dalmat (in) ischen , an independent Romance language on the eastern Adriatic coast .

Ragusa / Dubrovnik, an independent maritime republic for centuries , was dominated by the Romanesque population in the city proper, at least in the early Middle Ages. Even if the tradition suggests that historically, in addition to a defensive attitude towards Croatian , which is increasingly advancing , a rejection of Venetian Italian , the language of the rival Republic of Venice , was widespread, the written traditions of Ragusa are sparse.
