Abdul Ibrahim "Rahim" Ayew (born April 16, 1988 in Tamale ) is a Ghanaian soccer player . He currently plays for Lierse SK in the Belgian First Division . For the Ghanaian national team , he played his first international match in 2009.

Career

Rahim Ayew is the eldest son of Africa's former Footballer of the Year Abédi Pelé . His brothers André and Jordan are also professional footballers. He began his career after college at FC Nania Accra , where his father had already played. When the club was relegated from the Ghanaian Premier League in 2008, he moved to Sekondi Eleven Wise . In 2009 he signed a three-and-a-half-year contract with Bundesliga club TSG 1899 Hoffenheim , which was never carried out. In July 2009, the then 23-year-old finally moved to the Egyptian club Zamalek SC , where he received a five-year contract.

In January 2011 Ayew moved to Lierse SK .

Internationally, Rahim Ayew went through the various junior teams of Ghana and played for the U-23 national team at the Africa Games and qualification for the Olympic football tournament in 2008. Ayew also played with Ghana in the African Nations Championship, a tournament for national teams exclusively consist of players from the African leagues. There he and his team reached the final in Abidjan, where they lost to the Democratic Republic of the Congo. During the qualification for the Soccer World Cup 2006 Ayew was appointed to the squad of the national team for the first time, but made his debut on November 18, 2009 in a friendly against Angola in Luanda. After strong performances as a dynamic defender at the African Cup in January 2010, he and his brother André were nominated in the Ghanaian squad for the 2010 World Cup . Rahim Ayew was not used at the World Cup finals, in which Ghana advanced to the quarter-finals.
