Raiamas is a genus of predatory carp fish found in tropical South and Southeast Asia and Africa.

features

Raiamas species have an elongated, laterally flattened body and become 5 to 30 cm long. Their mouth is large, the maxillary long and usually extends beyond the center of the eye. The caudal fin is forked, the anal fin longer than the dorsal fin. The dorsal fin is generally devoid of any noticeable colors or patterns. A few enlarged, pointed scales sit above the [pelvic fins]. Males and females differ only slightly. The males' spawning rash is weak.

species

There are 19 validly described types. Probably the genus is not monotypical . The African raiamas styles are probably more closely with African Bärblingsgattungen Chelaethiops , Leptocypris , Mesobola , Neobola and Opsaridium used as with the Asian raiamas species, which are basal to the African group.
