Rail Simulator (abbreviated RS or KRS) is a railway driving simulator . It was developed by Kuju Entertainment , the developers of the Microsoft Train Simulator , and distributed by Electronic Arts . The release in Europe took place on October 12, 2007. After the UK version was released, support and further development of the simulator was taken over by Rail Simulator Developments Ltd. They worked on the successor program RailWorks, later only Train Simulator , which was published on June 12, 2009 (download) and July 3, 2009 (retail). The successor program is fully compatible with the add-ons for the Rail Simulator.
stretch
The Rail Simulator contains four routes in the European distribution version - three in English and one in German. The English routes were designed directly by Kuju, the German ones with the assistance of the additional train simulator manufacturer German Railroads .
Included routes:
- Oxford - Paddington
- Bath Green Park - Templecombe
- Newcastle - York
- Hagen - Siegen
criticism
Initially, the publisher Electronic Arts wanted to integrate advertising into the game. Advertising images should be dynamically downloaded and displayed on billboards that are set up along the route. The program should record how long the ad is viewed by the player and send this information back to the advertising industry over the internet. This can be seen as an invasion of privacy ( spyware ). However, due to resistance from the community , this plan was discarded. The retail version of the game does not contain any in-game advertising and does not keep any records of the user's activities.
Many of the weaknesses criticized at the beginning have now been fixed. As mentioned above, the train control systems AWS and TPWS are already in place, so at least point-shaped train control systems are programmable. Timetables can be programmed since the Mk2 upgrade.
