Raimondo di Sangro

Raimondo di Sangro , VII. Prince of Sansevero (born January 30, 1710 in Torremaggiore , † March 22, 1771 in Naples ) was an Italian aristocrat, inventor, soldier, writer and scientist who was responsible for the restoration of the Cappella Sansevero in Naples .

The prince's father was Antonio di Sangro , Duke of Torremaggiore, and his mother was Cecilia Gaetani dell'Aquila d'Aragona. His mother died shortly after he was born. At the age of ten he was sent to the Jesuit college in Rome , where he received the best possible education.

After his training he became a soldier of King Charles III. of bourbon. Raimondo had several waterproof coats made for the king. Other inventions of the prince were: artificial gemstones, artificial wax, a kind of eternal light, artificial silk, an iron alloy for lighter cannons and multi-color printing with only one printing process.

Raimondo was a Freemason and evidently a member of the Rosicrucian secret association .

In the so-called crypt of the Cappella Sansevero, two skeletons are kept behind glass, allegedly prepared by Raimondo, whose veins and veins have been completely preserved since the 18th century.

Raimondo died in Naples in 1771.
