Rainald Becker is a German historian .

Life

From 1992 to 1998 he studied history and German in Passau and Munich . From 1994 to 1997 he was a scholarship holder of the German National Academic Foundation . In 1997/1998 he obtained his Magister Artium and in 1998/1999 the first state examination for teaching at grammar schools. From 1999 to 2001 he had a research stay ("Assistant scientifico") at the Roman Institute of the Görres Society . From 2001 to 2016 he was a research assistant / assistant at the chair for comparative and Bavarian regional history with special consideration of the Middle Ages at the LMU . After completing his doctorate in 2004 and his habilitation in 2010, he represented the professorship for Bavarian and Franconian regional history at the University of Bayreuth from 2011 to 2015 .

His areas of research and work are spiritual elites and orders in the Middle Ages and early modern times, historical geography and topography, knowledge and education in humanism and baroque, and social and cultural transfers between southern Germany and North America in the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries.
