Rainald III. (Funds)

Rainald III. von Geldern (born May 13, 1333 - † December 4, 1371 ) was Duke of Geldern .

He was the eldest son of Rainald II from his second marriage to Eleonore , daughter of King Edward II , and succeeded him as Duke.

Rainald married Maria, the daughter of Duke Johann III. from Brabant. The marriage remained childless.

Rainald was forced into an alliance with England, fled in 1347 and formed an alliance with Brabant .

His younger brother Eduard led a feud against him from 1350 with the support of his mother and took him prisoner in the battle of Tiel in 1361 .

Eduard was killed in the battle of Baesweiler in 1371 . Rainald was released and reinstated as regent. He died three months later and was buried in Graefenthal Abbey. With him ended the male line of the Wassenberg family, the Flamenses family .
